When children play, they are developing
their physical fitness and co-ordination, their ability to reason and solve problems and improve their social skills.
The lack of play opportunities can impact negatively on a range of future
social issues including health, relationships, skills and employment.
Quality play is important because, by playing, children develop into healthier, more rounded adults.
DG Play was initially funded by Inspiring Scotland through the Go
Play initiative in partnership with the Scottish Government and was launched amid growing concerns that opportunities for
quality play are in decline for a variety of reasons - from parental concern about the risks from strangers or accidents through
to a lack of good places for children to go and play.
By
supporting the delivery of quality play opportunities, DG Play aims to improve the lives of children across Dumfries and Galloway
and, in the process, create lasting social change.
DG
Play’s remit is to enable play providers and partners to work together to support the development of quality play and
free play provision for children and young people in Dumfries and Galloway.
Membership is open to all organisations and individuals who deliver play activities, particularly
voluntary groups and partner organisations with an interest or statutory role in promoting the health
and wellbeing of children.
